Dorothy candiru is a 19 years old orphan who dropped out of school in primary six. She was staying with her Aunt who was disabled. She could not continue with studies up to high level of learning due to lack of school fees. One day the local council of the area approached Dorothy’s Aunt  to allow the girl to join  Vurra Women and orphans initiative for sustainable Development who is conducting hand on  skills Training  and empowerment in the community. Her Aunt highly accepted the offer and Dorothy  enrolled to train in Tailoring. As a policy of Vurra Women and Orphans initiative for sustainable development  , every student must join savings scheme  which enables them  sell whatever they produce from learning to get money. Accumulated savings of shs. 467,000 became Dorothy’s capital to start her own tailoring business which she  managed to facilitate her self  as she is now able to extend help back to her disabled aunts family.

 

She bought sewing machine and materials with her savings to  start her workshop at ovisoni trading center. She further said she earns shs . 15,000 to shs.20,000 on daily basis. Which has made her to buy and sell materials along side her tailoring. She now said she is financially stable and be able to support her Aunts chidren.

 

Last year she also got another chance under WENIPS funded by Enabel for skills upgrade for 3 months at Vurra Women and orphans initiative for sustainable Development . she said she upgraded her skills for making bridal dresses and Gomesi which has also made her business to improve . she can now be able to design bridal dresses and make gomesi on which previous she lacked skills.

 

Apart from sewing dresses the project also taught the business skills like how to cost the materials, book keeping , marketing, savings . they were also subjected to competing writing proposals for their business and she emerged one of the best student and she was awarded materials worth Ug.300,000 by WENIPS which has boosted her capita now. She is now saving more money to buy more machines so that she can be able train other disadvanged girls like her.

 

Dorothy Vurra Women and orphans initiative for sustainable Development for their  contributions to the world which has given her hope which has brought success appreciates  WENIPS and enable who have changed  her life and her family.  Dorothys word to the whole world is to appreciate Vurra Women and orphans initiative for sustainable Development on behalf of youths for the contributions   which  Vurra Women and orphans initiative for sustainable Development is making which has changed their lives greatly hence job creation.
